Whether it was announcing an outright ban on fur to giving us some adorable moments of Emma Chamberlain and her dad, frow at Ganni, Copenhagen Fashion Week was very eventful this year. Beyond the celebrity cameos or just ethical causes, however, the clothes were pretty major — announcing a vibe shift that seems to have settled over the fashion houses of the Danish capital.

Branching out from the Scandi minimalism, or so-called “Copencore”, associated with the sustainability-focussed fashion event, this year’s iteration welcomed a new era of experimentation: from upcycled parachutes and dresses made from table cloths at Holzweiler to dynamic tailoring and daring, see-through maxi dresses at Stine Goya.

Ganni, a schedule highlight, unveiled an energetic, joyful collection (as well as a new collab with English heritage brand Barbour — who could have seen that coming?) during a harbour-side runway show that brought out models on BMXs for its grand finale. Saks Potts, purveyor of fabulous, flamboyant outerwear, debuted metallic bikini tops, fringed accessories and studded leather for a dose of '70s throwback glam. Another major player, Baum und Pferdgarten, mined a different fashion decade for its S/S 23 collection as the Danish label brought out jewel-toned pieces in oversized, '80s silhouettes.

And a host of new and emerging designers were showcasing a grungier, sexier side of Scandi fashion. For her second CPHFW presentation, Stockholm-based designer Jade Cropper debuted distressed fabrics in tie-dye and icy tones, crafted into miniskirts, slashed tops and sensually draped jumpsuits. A. Roege Hove, showing under the CPHFW NEWTALENT incubator programme, celebrated a subversive take on knitwear that was sheer, slinky and summer-ready, playing with proportions through itsy-bitsy halter neck tops, figure-skimming cardigans, and sweeping skirts. The Scandi chic colour palette cultivated by the Danes popped as per usual too – there were lots of bright prints and Barbiecore-like callbacks, and a daring mixture of textures – denim and crochet, light-as-air knits and leather.

But, as always, the fashion didn’t begin and end on the runway: it was out on the city’s cobbles, too. A major focus was on street style this year as the city’s best-dressed (and the buyers, journalists and influencers who flocked to Copenhagen from all-over) put their best fashion foot forward. The mood? With grown-up tailoring, capacious cargo pants, or wonderfully chaotic colour-blocking, it was clear that anything goes, really.
