Last night, a reported 17.4 million people in the UK tuned in last nigh to watch the Women’s Euro 2022 final. The much-anticipated game between England’s Lionesses and the German women’s national team played out in a packed Wembley Stadium (which has a whopping 90,000 person capacity, FYI) as supporters on England’s home turf wondered if, finally, England might be able to bring it home.

The women’s team had the support of their nation behind them, with millions of supporters watching the game, an electric atmosphere at Wembley and celebrity supporters sending love to the players before the game. Among these well-wishers was former England men’s team player David Beckham, who sent the squad a message referencing his 11-year-old daughter Harper, saying; “Thank you for inspiring my daughter and thank you for inspiring the whole country. Bring that cup home!”

Spectators weren’t disappointed by the exciting, hard-fought game that developed on both sides, with plenty twists and turns. After a nil-nil first half with plenty of near-misses, England scored their first goal in the second half and, following a goal of their own from Germany, the Lionesses took home the title with a second winning goal scored by player Chloe Kelly in extra time.

Understandably, the reactions in Wembley and across England were one for the ages — this being the first time that the England women’s team have won the European Women’s Championship, after all. For their part, the England men’s team has never won the Euro’s. After euphoric celebrations last night throughout the country, today London’s Trafalgar Square has opened up for a celebration party which will be broadcast on BBC One at 12.40pm onwards and is expected to host 7000 fans.

But you don’t need a tv to see fans sharing their joy for this historic win: the evidence already came pouring in last night across social media with the likes of England men's player Marcus Rashford showing support and some amazing reactions from the public. From adorable kids reactions to hilarious player moments, TikTok and Twitter are full of memes celebrating the team’s success. Luckily for you, we’ve rounded up the best of them for your viewing pleasure - just check them out below.
