Raye made a historic sweep

The pop star made Brit history this weekend, as the artist with the most awards in a single year. After being nominated in a record-breaking seven categories, independent artist Raye took home six awards; Songwriter of the Year, Song of the Year, R&B Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, Artist of The Year & Mastercard Album of the Year.⁠

During her speeches, she called for the British music industry to “normalise giving artists master royalty points,” shouted out her home Croydon, and brought her grandmother up to the stage. Before Saturday’s ceremony, Adele, Blur and Harry Styles held the record jointly, having scored four each in different years.

Jungle took home their first-ever Brit

Not only was it their first Brit award nomination, but also their first win, as British duo and groove collective Jungle took home Group of the Year. The award commemorates their fourth album Volcano which birthed hits ‘Back on ‘74’, ‘Candle Flame’ and ‘I’ve Been In Love’.

The multitalented duo of Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland, along with vocalist Lydia Kitto credited their amazing band, team, choreographers and dancers in their acceptance speech, the latter of which joined them on stage earlier in the night to perform the choreography behind viral music video ‘Back on ‘74’.

Bimini dropped an important message

While presenting the International Song category, Bimini took the opportunity to highlight the struggles transgender and non-binary people are facing today in the UK, reminding them that they’re loved and that “trans rights are human rights”.

Hot girl shout-out

Despite still not getting her own Brit award this year (we had our fingers and toes crossed), Charli XCX still brought star power when she took a moment to shout out “all the hot girls in the place – Dua Lipa, Raye, where you at?”, as she took to the stage to present the award for Dance Act with Saltburn star Alison Oliver.

The nation’s favourite Traitors

Mother-son duo, Diana and Ross Carson, who took the nation by storm in this year's season of The Traitors made a surprise appearance in the show’s iconic ceremony cloaks. They took part in a Traitors-themed bit alongside hosts Maya Jama, Clara Amfo and Roman Kemp to announce Raye’s upcoming performance.
