Including lots of skin on show, sportswear everywhere and the rugged blue fabric we can’t get enough of

In an increasingly online world, it’s revealing (and fun) to touch grass and that’s exactly what 080 Barcelona Fashion Week was all about for me. TikTok, trend analysts and fashion experts say that animal print and tennis clothing are all trending, but how does this translate offline? No better way to sense check your trend theories than to sus the street style at a fashion week. After all, it is a congregation of the most fashion-conscious zeitgeist and as always, there’s no gatekeeping here, so I’m back to report everything I saw on the calles and ramblas. Read on for three trends that had Barcelona street style and runways in a chokehold:

Denim on denim on denim

….on denim. My laptop isn’t glitching, that’s just a tiny glimpse of how much the fabric dominated the entire week. While fashion house Velásquez paired dual toned denim jackets with club-ready metallic fringes and Dominnico styled baggy jeans with delicate sheer ruffles, 404 Studio took the textile patching up a notch by blending it with faux-shearling and leather. Off the runway, chic street style looks featured at least a peep – if not heaps – of denim. From acid washed culottes, denim skirts worn as shirts and jeans boots to denim pants thrown around the neck as a scarf, patchwork denim dresses and corsets, every iteration of the textile was the main character (like at the London counterpart, too). If you have 2010s denim hidden in the depths of your closet, now is the time to bring it out, wear it, slash it up, make ‘em yours x

Butt cracks and butt cheeks

Skin is so in! Online, we’re witnessing the rise of sheer clothing and at fashion week this trend was on steroids. Compte Spain’s standout looks included crochet capes worn with lace underwear, body hugging knit dresses and pants that left little to the imagination. At Martin Across, denims were worn so low waist that butt cracks had full viz while Dominnico showed off the standard underwear-as-trousers look. In the front row, stylish attendees wore ties and scarves as shirts, tiny bandeau tops and even pants that were cut out at the bum to leave the cheeks hanging out. Wearing nothing is the new everything, apparently.

Fashion loves sports

Maybe it’s Barcelona’s love of footie, maybe it’s the excitement of the Olympic year, maybe it’s Zendaya in Challengers, maybe it’s the era of hitting the turf straight from fashion week, who knows? What we do know is that jerseys, team jackets, football boots and sports merch of all kinds are having a big moment. “I got these Nike boots off Vinted; I’ve never played ball a day in my life but look how they hug my feet, it’s sick,” a well-dressed attendee tells me while in line for the 404 Studio show. Others wore jerseys under corsets and fur jackets, draped around their waists as a skirt (the creative juices were in full swing) or with sheer pants. It’s all about mixing the hyper casual with dressy, formal, flashy fits and we’re so here for it. Comfort >>>
