Prey is the exhilarating prequel to Predator and one of the most compelling of the five films in the franchise to date. Set among the Comanche Nation in 1719, the female-fronted, psychologically-driven action movie sees Naru (Amber Midthunder), a skilled young hunter, face off against a shape-shifting alien. Pitting her wits against the futuristic technology of this ever-adapting and evolving creature, it's a showdown of brain versus brawn that will constantly have you wondering what's going to happen next...

The film has been praised by critics for its character development, exciting stunts and Midthunder's impressive performance, making it one of the most hyped films of the summer. But even if you're not an action fan, there's plenty to enjoy. While twists and turns are the driving force of the film, they play out against a tapestry of warmth, endearing family ties and community: this is one of the rare blockbusters which also happen to have heart.

To mark the film's release, we were lucky enough to sit down with its star, Amber Midthunder. As you've probably gathered, the rising actress is having a pretty major year so far, with her heavily anticipated turn in Prey as well as news of her casting in the forthcoming live action Avatar: The Last Airbender tv series. But amid all these huge career achievements, how does she keep herself feeling good? Well, we asked her – and you can check out her five-step Feel Good Philosophy below...

Do this

"Every day, I like to do something that relaxes my mind. I like to take time to either have nothing going on and be mindful or put on a really bad tv show and let my brain relax."

Bring this

"Lately, I've not been leaving the house without a baseball hat. You never know when the sun is going to be out, you never know that your hair is going to look like. Also, chapstick is very important, you don't want your lips to be dry."

Treat yourself

"I like to treat myself in whatever way feels best at the time. Sometimes that's a nice meal, sometimes it's time alone. Time well wasted, I really believe in that..."

Treat others...

"I like to make somebody else's day in whatever way feels the most thoughtful. If I know someone's love language is words of affirmation, I like to take a moment and be like; 'Hi, I miss you, I love you, I know you're doing great.' Whatever means the most to each person."

Say this...

"My parents always said to me growing up; 'Try to leave a place better than it was before you came.' You can just get very busy and very involved and active in what's in front of you and it's good to stop and be mindful and think of the impression you're leaving."

Prey is out now on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US.
