WISH is a film all about hope. The Disney soon-to-be-classic, in cinemas now, pays homage to the film studio's golden age with plenty of riffing off of the hand-drawn scenes and characters so many of us grew up on, with call backs to everything from _Maleficent _to Beauty and the Beast. Ariana DeBose voices Asha, a 17-year-old girl who wishes upon a star to save the world she inhabits.

The Broadway actress turned superstar who you might know from Netflix’s The Prom and Steven Spielberg’s 2021 reprisal of West Side Story sat down with woo to tell us the important bits - from everything from advice she’s glad she didn’t follow to famous friends and how she keeps her head screwed on without falling down a spiral of imposter syndrome and anxiety.

In our video with Ariana, she told us the advice she got that she’s super glad to not have followed. When meeting with industry honchos early on, she was told “New York is hard, go home and go to school”

Instead, she stuck it out at the hard stuff and “did what my gut told me what to do”. And now she’s a star and despite her “nerves and imposter syndrome” she tries “to balance my own expectations and as long as I’m doing my best and I’m proud of my work, then that’s enough”

Giving props to Kerry Washington, a friend of hers who she - obviously - looks up to, she also told us about her dreams of dancing and all the brilliant callbacks that WISH makes to all the other Disney films that came before
