WATCH: woo meets: Julia Michaels, the songwriter behind Disney's Wish

Wish is a new Disney film that calls back to a load of other Disney films, in part because they’re great and nostalgic. And in part to celebrate the film studio’s 100th anniversary. And of course, it wouldn’t be a classic Disney film without a soundtrack made of soaring musical numbers.

Sure, there's Chris Pine and Ariana DeBose singing many of the hit numbers, but the brains behind the inspirational lyrics is worth getting to know too.

Cue Julia Michaels, who wrote the lyrics to and co-composed the soundtrack, including songs like "This Wish". The Grammy-nominated songwriter, who’s written tracks for the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Fifth Harmony, sat down with woo so we could get to know her a little better.

In terms of which big name stars she’d like to collaborate with next, Adele is high up on her list, as is Chris Martin from Coldplay. That said, when she wants a bit of downtime, in-between writing songs, she’ll listen to everything from Cardi B to blues singer Bonnie Raitt.

It’s all part of “Being my authentic self” which is also the best way, she explains, for her to combat any imposter syndrome that comes rearing its head.

One of the things she loves most about Wish is the messaging behind it and how giving it is: “It’s so rooted in hope and doing something for the better of other people and not for yourself. I think that’s such a beautiful message and something that we need right now”
